Selling event tickets with Meta ads: the guide for Swiss organisers
Most event ads fail on measurement, not on creative. Here is the tracking setup, the campaign structure and the budget logic we use to turn ad spend into tracked ticket sales.
Start with tracking, not with creative
An event campaign without server-side tracking is guesswork. Before a single franc is spent, the ticketing checkout has to fire a purchase event that carries the ticket value, the event name and the order ID back to the ad platform. Without that, the platform optimises towards clicks and add-to-carts - traffic that looks good in the dashboard and sells nothing.
With Beyond Tickets we get a tracked checkout and a matching purchase value per ticket type. That single change is usually worth more than any creative iteration: the algorithm starts buying buyers instead of browsers.
A campaign structure that survives a short sales window
Most Swiss events sell in a window of four to ten weeks. That is too short for slow learning phases, so we run a flat structure: one broad prospecting campaign optimised on purchase, one retargeting campaign on site visitors and video viewers, and - from roughly two weeks out - one urgency campaign carrying the real scarcity signals (last tier, last hundred tickets, weather, line-up completion).
Audiences stay wide. In a market the size of Switzerland, interest stacking mostly starves delivery. Geography, age and language do the segmenting; the creative does the targeting.
Budget: what to expect before you scale
Below roughly CHF 5,000 in ad budget there is not enough purchase signal for reliable optimisation, and reporting becomes anecdotal. Above it, retargeting is where the profitable volume sits: on the Ohlala Show we reached 8.07x ROAS, on SunIce Festival 11.5x, in both cases with retargeting carrying the majority of tracked revenue.
Judge a campaign on tracked ticket revenue against spend, not on CPM or CTR. A cheap click that does not check out is the most expensive thing in an event budget.
Creative: three jobs, not one
Every event needs three creative families running in parallel: proof that the event is real and good (crowd footage, artist clips, last year), proof that it is happening now (date, city, line-up, tier), and proof that it is nearly gone (sell-out signals). Rotate within families weekly; replacing everything at once destroys the learning you paid for.
How much ad budget do I need to sell tickets through Meta ads?
From about CHF 5,000 per event campaign. Below that there is too little purchase data for the platform to optimise on sales, and results become hard to attribute.
What is a good ROAS for event ticket ads in Switzerland?
With clean tracking and an established event, 4x to 8x tracked ROAS is a realistic target; strong retargeting on a known audience can go well beyond that. Campaigns for first-edition events usually land lower in the first weeks.
Do I need my own ticketing system for tracked ticket sales?
You need a ticketing provider that lets you fire a purchase event with the real order value. White-label providers such as Beyond Tickets support this; large marketplace platforms often do not hand over the data.
